Invictus to start seismic campaign in Zimbabwe in September

Sydney-listed Invictus Energy on August 30 said the seismic campaign in Cabora Bassa basin in Zimbabwe will begin in September. The seismic acquisition contract was awarded to Canada’s Polaris Natural Resources in April.

Data recording is scheduled to start in the first week of September with the shooting of an initial test line to determine the optimum data acquisition parameters to suit the objectives of the programme, it said. Invictus has awarded the seismic data processing contract to Earth Signal Processing who are also based in Canada.

“The company is pleased to be commencing the seismic data acquisition in the coming days and the preparation for this campaign has gone well and all the equipment and personnel heading to the field,” Invictus managing director Scott Macmillan said.

“We are extremely pleased with the performance of Polaris and the local field crew who have completed 400 km line clearing ahead of the data acquisition which will ensure that the campaign is completed seamlessly,” he added.

Invictus has also completed the tendering process for long lead drilling items which is awaiting formal award, it said. The rig selection process is advancing and the company is in discussions with shortlisted rig providers as well as drilling services providers. The process is expected to be complete by the end of the September quarter which will then be followed by the formal award of the drilling and services contract.

The Cabora Bassa project comprises the Mzarabani and Msasa gas and condensate prospects, which Invictus describes as “world-class multi-trillion ft3” plays. The project received environmental approval from Zimbabwean authorities in August last year.
