Brighton Enock Mwepu captains and scores for Zambia in win

Enock Mwepu had a evening he will not forget for his country.

The 23-year-old was named as Zambia’s captain for the first time in their 2-1 win over Mauritania in a World Cup qualifier this evening.

After Zambia announced Mwepu as their skipper this  morning on Twitter he replied to the tweet with the following message: “Honoured to lead this group,it’s a new dawn.”

He then capped off what was a special game for him by scoring his second-ever goal for them ten minutes into the game.

Prince Mumba clipped a ball over the top of the Mauritania, which Mwepu brought down well before then hitting a half-volley which bounced in of keeper Namori Diaw and bobbled in.

Mumba then doubled their lead early into the second half, before Mamadou Niass pulled a goal back to set up a tense final 20 minutes.

The win saw Zambia make the perfect start in Group B.

Mwepu was not the only Premier League player with Leicester striker Patson Daka starting up top.
