BOSETU Rallies teachers to abandon marking of Coursework :: Mmegi Online

The Botswana Sector of Educators Trade Union(BOSETU), have called upon teachers to abandon any ongoing moderation of Coursework across the country, immediately.

This, after the Union and the examinations body, Botswana Examinations Council(BEC) deadlocked on bargaining for the wages of teachers for moderation and marking if this year’s examinations.

In a statement BOSETU Secretary General Tobokani Rari appealed to teachers to discontinue any ongoing moderation with immediate effect, until such time that the impasse between the Teachers Trade Unions and BEC over the 2021/22 Coursework and Moderation rates would have been resolved.

“We appeal to our members affected by this decision to remain steady fast on this position, and that they should not be intimidated as they are protected by the 2009 Court judgment that has unequivocally stated that Coursework and Moderation are NOT part of their duties but rather, that of BEC”, says Rari.
